7 Unexpected Ways to Get Inspired

7 ways to get inspired | creative entreprenuer | blogger

As much as I’d like to be a machine for amazing, creative ideas, that isn’t always the case. I get distracted on Facebook, fall down the rabbit hole on Pinterest or just find anything else to do rather than the task at hand.

Trying to lure the creative process to just “happen” is sometimes all-out stress-inducing. But it’s also an essential ingredient to running a creative business. Next time you find yourself creatively stumped, try these 7 unexpected ways to get inspired.

7 Unexpected Ways to Get Inspired

Discover New Tunes

What’s your jam? Mine is Pandora but I know a lot of people swear by Apple Music and Spotify. Whenever I’m in a work funk, I try browsing something different. I have a Sonos player in my office and sometimes just adding a new station does the trick!

Lather, Rinse, Repeat

Seriously, there’s something about suds’ing up that just makes the creative juices flow. Perhaps it’s the sensory experience or the quiet time but whatever it is, it works. Try a shower next time you need some inspiration. Sometimes, this means I shower twice a day, or in the middle of the afternoon!

Take a Nap

Sometime between that sleeping and waking point I have wacky dreams. Which also lead to wacky, innovative ideas. Keep a journal by your bed, take a quick 20-minute power nap and reset your mind. You never know what just might happen! (If you’re having a hard time winding down in the middle of the afternoon try a sleep mask, it makes a world of difference.)

Try Some Vino

A glass of wine can be great for de-stressing and tapping into your creative mindset. Just make sure to limit it so you’re feeling inspired….not tipsy.

Break a Sweat

When there’s nothing but you and the pavement, it’s easy to let the mind wander. Which is why I’ll often grab my running shoes when I feel like I’m in a creative funk. There’s nothing like a good release of endorphins to help you feel pumped and motivated again.

If I can’t get outside or have my little one with me, I’ll squeeze a quick sweat sesh in at home. I use Daily Burn or Kayla Itsine’s Bikini Body Guide for a super-quick HIIT workout that I can do right in my living room, even when my toddler is around

Peruse Pinterest

There’s inspiration galore on Pinterest just waiting to be uncovered. Don’t limit yourself to looking for pins in your niche, just let the power of the internet suck you in and take you away to a far away place. This is probably one of my personal favorite ways to let the mind wander. Other than the shower, of course.

Creativity can’t be forced, so when you’re feeling stuck try indulging your wandering attention span by focusing on something else. You’d be surprised at how giving yourself breathing room to just “be” may insight that spark again!

What are some of your favorite ways to get inspired when you’re just not feeling it?
